different income streams for artists

These days I question what to call myself. I’m doing so many things that I don’t feel like I have one title that makes sense. Today I wanted to share some of my income streams as a content creator / artist / designer.

I know there is advice out there that says you’ll see better return on your investment if you niche down or focus on one thing, but I’m not at the point where I can do just one thing and still make enough money to keep going. Hence, multiple income streams.

freelance virtual assistant

The first and most important thing I do is I am a virtual assistant for a small business and this brings me the most joy! I love being able to help other people, and even though this doesn’t take up a lot of my time each week, I do love being able to do it.

freelance video editor

Another portion of my freelance work is being a video editor for a friend here on Youtube! This is relatively new to me, but it excites me! I get to combine two things I love: helping people and video editing. Very excited to see where this experience takes me. If you need a video editor, send me an email and we can chat!

freelance graphic designer

The next very small portion of my freelance work is graphic design for a business. They send me a brief and I send in designs. This is a very small portion of my job as it’s not steady and not obligated to be recurring. I think I’ve done 3 or 4 briefs this year. I’d love to do more, but time will tell!

selling on digital marketplaces

Moving on from freelance work is of course, selling on digital marketplaces. These days I primarily sell on Cricut, because it takes the least time AND it pays the best (by far). So it’s a no brainer to focus there. However, I also sell on my website, Creative Market, Creative Fabrica, and Etsy.

  • Cricut is my top performing site still over 2 years later. To date, it’s actually 60% of my total income this year.

  • I’m also on Etsy, Creative Fabrica, Creative Market, and of course my website.

  • My patterns I list on Spoonflower, and haven’t even been able to cash out there yet. I do enjoy making patterns, but I just am not sure if I am cut out for that right now with everything else i have going on i just dont have a ton of time to devote to it.

tiktok shop for affiliate

Something I stumbled into last year was creating Tiktok Shop affiliate videos. This is now something I do all the time, though it doesn’t make me the same kind of money it did last year. I’m not out here buying every little thing I come across, because frankly I just don’t want a lot of junk in my house. But it is still a recurring thing I do!

amazon storefront + onsite ads

I also started up using my Amazon storefront more last year. I’d say I’m pretty timid when it comes to affiliate sales. I’m not gonna be super pushy with tiktok or amazon, and that’s definitely hindering my sales on both platforms. But I will authentically share things every now and then on my stories, or on pinterest.

amazon kdp

Something brand new to me this year is selling coloring books on Amazon through their Amazon KDP program. I launched my coloring book in March, and all of my sales on Amazon are completely passive. I really do love that aspect of things.

tikok shop for seller

The last income stream I have is also selling my coloring book on tiktok shop as a seller. I love that you are now able to both be a seller as well as an affiliate. Last year you were only able to do one or the other and when i wanted to switch over to affiliate sales, I had to close my shop side of things.
